Weekend (Saturday and Sunday) Stall Holder(s) - recruiting now

October 2018

I'm looking for outgoing people with an enthusiasm for food to work at my busy weekend stalls in the run up to Christmas 2018 at events in Ayrshire, Glasgow and possibly further afield!

Work includes transporting stock and display equipment to market venues, setting up the stall and samples, interacting with customers and making sales, recording sales on a smartphone app, cashing up, packing away and replenishing sold stock from my base in Fenwick.

stall stall

You need to be trustworthy, reliable & have excellent customer service skills & food safety awareness.

The person should be comfortable working in busy, vibrant and exciting markets, festivals and exhibitions, and also able to self-motivate at quieter ones. They should be able to work diligently on their own and have the aesthetic vision to be able to set up and display the stall to an appropriate high quality that matches the brand image, and to encourage sales of the products through their product knowledge and enthusiasm, and empathy with customers.

To serve customers at various market stalls and events. To proactively encourage sales through excellent service and product knowledge. Whether it is helping pick the perfect present, ideal accompaniment to a specific meal, or promoting offers, you will be there to add to the customer experience.

You must have a hard working, positive attitude, be able to work well unsupervised and love to sell. Smiling is a must!
Having a good professional relationship with event organisers and fellow stallholders is important.

The role does require some heavy lifting to transport stock and set up the display. Generally you will be physically mobile for the vast majority of this job, as sitting down at a stall is a sure-fire way to discourage customer interest, and you will need to move about the stall to sell. You may be working outdoors in all sorts of weather depending on the event.

Contract dates:
A fixed-term zero-hours contract, and be most weekends through until late December, depending on event bookings.

The contract is based on zero-hours* because each event has its own setup and trading times, so every Saturday and Sunday is likely to be different. Most start around 10am and finish mid-afternoon, but some such as summer fetes or Christmas lights switch on events can start around midday and finish late afternoon/early evening. Larger exhibitions and festivals are all-day events. Team members will be paid from arrival at the venue an hour before the start of trading, until an hour after the advertised trading end (to include setting up and packing down).
*This means that there is no obligation on the employer to offer work, but that there is an obligation on the employee to accept it when offered.
However, it is expected that work will be available and offered for almost all weekends until mid December and usually be for between 6 and 8 hours per day.

Most of the events are in Ayrshire (Troon, Maybole, Cumnock, Alloway etc), and there are likely to be dates in Glasgow, as well as dates in locations such as Paisley, Gourock, Falkirk, Clarkston, Barrhead, Johnstone, Eaglesham and New Lanark.
